What is Racism?
Racism is hatred or intolerence of another race or other races. Racism is when someone discriminates another race in any way.
Examples of Racism in Society:
The Harlem Renaissance (Past)
The Harlem Renaissance was a "spiritual coming of age" that spanned in the 1920's until the mid 1930's. This movement not only encouraged African-Americans to unite but to have pride in their heritage and race as well. Civil rights activist, W.E.B. Du Bois, was one of the people who founded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and promoted civil rights while trying to fight African-American inequality. This event occurred because of how African-Americans were treated and because of their disadvantages. They came up with the idea of creating a "literary, artistic, and intellectual movement" that would begin a new identity for all African-Americans.
This event displays racism because African-Americans thought white people were against them so they tried to build futures for themselves and their families just like other races, especially whites. My opinion on the Harlem Renaissance is that it was a really big step for African-Americans to having freedom and being equal with every other race. The situation could have been handled differently but was probably better going the way it did because African-Americans showed their talents and that they're are capable of the things that anyone else can do.

This Renaissance has given African-Americans the chance to show their talents and everything else they are capable of doing, just like everyone else.
