Anne Frank - The Diary of a Young Girl
Summary:
A girl of 13 years old, named Anne Frank had gone into hiding during the World War. She, her family, and another family have all been hiding for 3 years so that the Germans and or police would not find them and put them in concentration camps or in prison. Since she had been forced into hiding to survive the war, she had to get along with everyone in the house. Anne had to ration her food and had almost nothing to eat a number of times. Peter, the son of the second family, Margot, sister of Anne, and Anne herself had outgrown most of the clothes they had brought with them. The adult's clothes had been damaged and worn many times before. The whole household would always bicker with each other, even over the slightest things. Everyone had people that went out to buy books, clothes, food, and other gifts and necessities and also warn them about upcoming events and news. Those people were Elli, Miep, Mr. Koophius, and Mr. Kraler. The war had gone on for a very long time and having that, it caused everyone to long for something they most desired.

Theme:
Theme is the central idea or message of the story. It is what the author includes in the story in order to make a point and to tell what the main idea is. The theme in Anne Frank's diary is that the Germans are against all Jews and mistreat them. Jews have certain limits and boundaries because of the Germans. Anne made this clear throughout the whole story, therefore it is the theme or central idea. Theme is not always included in just books, but are also in movies and anything that tells a story, for example, someone's life.
Conflict:
Conflict is a situation that someone or multiple people have come across. In this case, the conflict is man vs. society because society which is the Germans are fighting against Jews. The Germans have made it hard for Jews to live because of their rules and the war that they have started. Conflict can be started by one person or many people and this causes hardship within the situation. In conflict, people may disagree, fight, or just ignore the situation. There is always a solution but people may not come to one. The Jews are trying to live their lives but they are getting held back because of certain limits and rules that the Germans have set. This is why in "The Diary of a Young Girl," the conflict is man vs. society.
Motif:
The motif in Anne Frank's diary is the Germans in war. The war is the main idea in her diary because it is what she has been living through for a few years now and it is a big conflict in the story. The war with the Germans is the cause to how everyone lives, especially the Jews. The motif is also Anne's life because not only does she write about the war and the Germans, she also writes about her own life and what goes on in the house she lives in.
Author's Perspective:
The author of "The Diary of a Young Girl", which was written by Anne Frank was a thirteen year old girl when she started this diary. She wrote it because she loved to write and did not really have anyone to talk to at the time. She started writing during the war and wrote what was happening and who was involved. She always updated her diary with news whether it was good or bad. She did not start her diary with dear journal or diary but she named it Kitty. Anne wrote about her life and the life of others living in the war. Anne did not like it during the war and she longed for all her friends and her school. She also wanted her home back and everything to be like it was before, especially with her family. This is the author's perspective.
Book Review:
In "The Diary of a Young Girl", a non-fiction book written by Anne Frank, told us about all the hardships that she went through. The main idea of her diary was that the Germans were fighting against many other countries and were against the Jews. My opinion of this book is that it's a really good book because not only is the whole story real, but it tells us about a girl in her teenage years that struggles with her life, which is really interesting. I would give this book five out of five stars (Jews had to wear stars, so that people could tell who was who) because it was interesting and was not focused just on one idea the whole time. A suggested age group for this book would probably be around thirteen to fifteen years old because not only does Anne write about her lifestyle during the war, but she writes about boys and how she wants someone to love. Anne tells her diary, Kitty, what she wants, how she wants things to be, and the frustration she holds within herself during the war.
